Dear friends of jazz research,

We are happy to inform you that “Jazz Encounters”, the 8th Rhythm Changes Conference, will take place in Graz (Austria) from 3 to 6 April 2024. This conference is organised by the Institute for Jazz Research at the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz in conjunction with the 14th International Jazz Research Conference of the ISJ (International Society for Jazz Research). 

We’ll have keynotes by 
Prof. George McKay (University of East Anglia, UK)
Maite Hontelé (trumpet player, the Netherlands)
Stephanie Vos (Stellenbosch University, South Africa)

The four-day multidisciplinary conference will bring together researchers across the arts and humanities as well as writers, musicians, critics, and others interested in jazz studies. The event will feature academic papers and panels.

Early bird registration for “Jazz Encounters” is valid until February 4, 2024 (early bird fee: €125, regular fee: €145), regular registration is open until March 31, 2024.
Students can register for a reduced fee of €50 (€75 after February 4) by using a discount code in the registration form. Please send us a verification of your student status to rhythmchanges@kug.ac.at in order to receive the code.
